Today's market for imported food and beverage products in Brazil is largely targeted towards the
high-end audience. The current scenario is quite different from the mid-1990s, when there were
a limited number of imported products available to Brazilian consumers. A new consumption
pattern was established and Brazilian consumers not only became aware of a wide range of new
products and became acquainted with famous brands, but also brought sophistication to the
purchase process. With the depreciation of the Dollar in course, U.S. products not only become
more affordable but are also getting special attention from local importers, who are diversifying
their portfolio in order to be less exposed to the Euro. Taking this as an opportunity, the U.S.
Agricultural Trade Office, in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service, created the American
Products Portfolio (APP). This project aims to expand sales of U.S. products, introduce new
brands in the local market and conquer a greater image on consumer's mind for U.S. food and
beverage products.
TARGET PRODUCTS are consumer-oriented products that fit in the following categories:
hot/trendy products, gourmet, high-end, innovative package, natural/healthy/organic, 6 month
shelf-life (min), and non-perishable.
Phase I: APRIL-MAY 08 Development of US Products Portfolio
This first phase consists of selecting American products that could have a real possibility
of entering the Brazilian market. We will contact companies that are included in USDA
and USCS database.
Companies interested in participating in this project must send to USDA/USCS the
following information:
APP printed catalogue to be sent to potential buyers
USDA will analyze if there is a potential matchmaking for the exporter. Should the
response be positive, the companies will receive instructions regarding shipment of
samples/catalogues.
Phase II: JUNE-JULY Matchmaking
Samples/catalogues received will be forwarded to potential importers included in
USDA/USCS database.
US companies will receive the full contact information for all potential buyers to start
dialogue.
